Test sample of my recording
on: October 21, 2005, 10:50:44 PM
I just got all the things I need to do some recordings yesterday.  So, I decided to try it out.  My recording doesn't sound lush and warm as some of you guys do in here.  What am I doing wrong?.  My recording sounds sterile and dry.  Any advice?  Minuet in G by Bach.

Yes it has to be in mp3 format.

Check Sonar for a place to save in mp3 format.  However, only do this for the final copy you upload to the web.  Always keep an uncompressed wav for your records, as this will preserve the full audio quality of the recording.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

How  do you encode your waves into smaller bitrate?

I haven't used Sonar before, so I can't give you the exact steps.

In the Save dialouge box, there should be something called "options".  It should be in there.  You can set the bit rate in there.  The common internet bitrate for mp3's is 128 kbps.  For your uncompresed wav files: 44.1 k, 16 bit Stereo is considered CD quality, and you will need to have it at that rate in order to burn audio CD's.

Quantum, I have decided to download the free version of adobe audition.  I finally got it to post it on the site.  However, I may need your assistance in the future on how to use this program.  I hope you don't mind. ;D

Am I hearing it right? My piano sounds like a Steinway if not a Kawai EX in here.

Where did you place the mics ? They may be too close to the piano. This would prevent getting the warm sound that you wish.
