Is anyone doing the Piano e-competition?

I was looking up piano competitions and i came across this one.  The prizes are great,  and I live close to the host city, but i'm afraid the competition is way out of my league.  I'm just curious if anyone in the forum is applying for it.

Wow! Those prizes are great! As for being out of your league, it just may well be. Of course, I don't know you or anything, but the people that won, seemed to have tremedous repetoires and, I didn't listen to any of the MIDI files, but probably play the pices perfectly. Also, piano is most likely their whole life. I know it's out of my league because I'm 15, still and highschool and have a repetoire a fifth the size of their's, but it might not be for you. It depends how serious you are about piano, and if you will have the required pieces ready by october 1st.

It's a good competition. But you gotta be a professional pianist to even start thinking about winning. The level's "the highest in 15 years" according Abbey Simon, chair of last one's jury.

how can you fully express yourself with a midi instrument?  they just dont have the same dynamic characteristics as a piano does.  ya I wouldnt even consider this competition.  I am a self-taught bad habit kind of pianist.  But I love to play and thats what counts to me.  always trying to make the music more beautiful.
i wouldnt mind taking that first prize though..nice

If I remember correctly it is a real grand with midi recording capabilities. First prize is real good, I wouldn't mind the other prizes either.

It's a real instrument. Twinkle, obviously you've never seen a yamaha disklavier in demonstration. Also, even if you have seen disklavier, remember that there are differen't levels of that instrument. The normal disklavier plays straight midi, plus their proprietory format (which, if I remember correctly, uses several other channels in the midi file to store information on pedaling etc.) The disklavier pro, on the other hand, is a work of art. It does 128 gradations of everything, measures how fast the hammer's moving as you press, and as it goes to the top, a grayscale pedal (so you can do a tiny more than halfpedal and it'll still reproduce it), and in XP mode (dunno what that stands for, extra something) it also records (in 128 gradations) how fast you're RELEASING the keys. it's really amazing.

In conclusion.. I couldn't tell the difference between my performance of it and when it's played back on the disklavier pro. Especially when it's the same piano. And don't tell me I don't have different sounds. lol

My sole experience of the disklavier was when I was playing a Louis XIV Bosendorfer in Harrods, London. The Portuguese sales assistant asked me to curtail my playing because "the disklavier is playing now". I was not impressed,

Like I said, a normal disklavier depends on lots of factors for it to work properly. And anyways that probably wasn't a disklavier pro. Also remember that however good the piano is it depends on the pianist, and it's the same thing with the disklavier. You can have an instrument that reproduces exactly what you do (and the disklavier doesn't quite do that - it's just close enough that you can't tell the difference) and if you suck, the reproduction will suck as well. So it is possible that you heard a bad recording? and anyway piano salesmen are among my least favorite people.

Yes another one I spoke to in Harrods was very uncomplimentary about many many pianists - Perrahia, Ashkenazy, Kissin, Pollini (basically anyone that played the right notes!). He did recommend a good CD to me though - the Cherkassky Prokofiev 2. Fortunately he like Argerich,
