Da SDC, yes...i went there...
on: November 04, 2005, 07:19:17 AM
Now this has surfaced left and right, but usually get repressed under the hatred for this forum, and i know Nils doesnt find comfort in the idea that this forum be talked about on this (his) website, none the less i feel this could be a great topic, and hopefully open some people's eyes.

For those of you who arent familiar with Da SDC (www.DaSDC.net), in a nutshell, it is a piano community just like this one, yet the views these people share are different as day and night. Predominantly populated with a younger generation, and of course there is a significant amount of leniency and a left winged appeal, that this forum definately doesnt attribute. Its a community, if stumbled upon, that will leave you either in disgust, intriegd, humoured, or simply confused. With hundreds upon hundreds of one word or one emoticon posts, pockets and pockets of inside jokes, and "meaningless" jargon, i can vouche, personally, for this community as being tightly knit, and just as inspiring as the pianostreet everyone has grown to love and admire.

Although Da SDC isnt the best resource for beginners to seek refuge in, it makes up for what they lack in the student department, with its stylish outlook on music, piano, and sense of community. There is alot more to da sdc, from the simple inside jokes on "Da Dongah" to the deep philosophies of fury and moisture, nonetheless i will get to the main point.

I often see people bad mouth this community for the language they use.
100% of the people banned from this forum have been , were, or became Da SDC members.

My main reason for making this post,...what are your views on Da SDC..and i want to know why you like/dislike/dont care for this community...i also want to know if you sleep naked..but this will have to wait for a later time...

Best Wishes

Nils Johamburger

Da SDC is one of the best forums I've ever been on. I become a registered member awhile ago but I've always been there lurking on the background.

Seems to have a fair amount of libel.

Knock, knock, who is there? Doctor. Doctor who?

Keep repeating that in every post you make, how long before it stopped being funny?

Now imagine a group of people who do the same with their own joke and never change it. It's like a sig, they are funny for one post and that was actually made in 1979 by someone else - except the new idea seems to be to make the post the sig as well.

It doesn't immediately suggest a creative and imaginative bunch, does it? Of course they might be, but, find some new material :)

now leachim i know exactly where your coming from, but to every redundant joke, there is an inside perception of it, one mans garbage is another mans treasure. Once you emmerce yourself in the "culture" of it..you'll understand "knock knock, whos there, doctor, doctor who?" because it will have a meaning other than its superficial text...

your post can easily be formed in an analogy...your explanation for not liking it...is just the same as any person who says they dont enjoy piano music because its all the same..its all just piano..yet this is true..just like your true that its just one or two jokes over and over...the significance of it lies within the person viewing...and your refusal for acceptance is simply a reflection of your unwillingness to learn, due to the fact that it does not appeal to you...but..does this give you the right to judge?..of course it does...but remember that your uneducated judgement attributes to your overall character and disposition..

I scan da SDC and Chopinfiles occasionally.  da SCD always makes me laugh, or LMAO, actually.  But I'm of a different generation and neither talk the talk nor walk the walk!  If I was 20, I'd be there.   8)  I'd say to each his own.

Judge seems a harsh term. You advertised the site here and invited comment on it after all.

Besides, you acknowledged the site had the characteristic I described, but assumed that characterisic implied something bad or negative. [Even what you meant by "judge" implied negativity - if I'd said "The site rocks" would you ask if I had rights to judge it or not?]

That latter assumption is a projection of your values not mine - I didn't say "It's crap because..." or "It's great because..."

But, If it has any redeeming features at all w.r.t  the young generation comment -  I imagine I'd be last person on earth you'd want to like it. It'd be like your parents saying that the music you listen to, clothes you wear and friends / partners you pick are good wouldn't it?

"Hi mum, fancy listening to my zombie chicken #$%#$'s from hell album?"
"Sure Matthew, gee it's so nice to relax and listen to Metal Fusion"
"I got my #$%# pierced and a tattoo saying '##$$ my parents'"
"Cool, I like tattoos"
"But..."
"No buts dear, I recognise your rights to free expression and I can be a bit of a $%%wit at times"
"Gah, I give in, I hate you mom, you understand me...stomp"

Was it funny in the first place?

Whats the logic behind the repetition?

Here's an example of an actual da sdc topic

Pure genius

Hahaha, true

Hmm, i c

randomly ah thought he wuzz going to swear

thats cuz you is sl*w

ah did ride the short bus to school

hhaha

hahaha

this remind mah bad self of something

hahahha possibly

While to an already biased eye this appears to be nothing but nonsense, its it clearly a topic drenched in both irony and humor. Starting with the pic that is clearly a play on the topic name and ending with the members playfully insulting themselves and each other. Each post sparks something new, thought with a bit of the old mixed in. The reactions are simple and honest. Why type "well ah was certainly startled that this picture didnt quite meet the what I had in mind upon reading the topic name"and " ah must agree this  picture has a certain hilarity to it", when "hahahha" and "I C" say the same thing with less words.

Ironically, this is the opposite of the effect of 'Knock Knock...Doctor" ad infinitum 8)

So, from what you've said they could drop the repetative "joke" that, as you ask "was it ever funny"? Good point well made :)

The other possibility might be to get it recognised as an official language. I read Italian www sites, precisely because to my untrained eye they appeared to be nothing but nonsense, and I don't really care what the content is either, except for the process of trying to work out what it's literally saying, of course.

Indeed, your post seemed to glance at the fact that the repetitive joke isn't necessary [by not actually talking about it and talking about some other jokes there instead]

Rather than assume the subject had whooshed over your head once again, I gave the benefit of the doubt and assumed instead that you were making a good point and said as much - as you say though with your grow a brain comment, making the assumption that you understood was a dumb thing to do  ???

Ironically, if you actually used a period, one could actually tell what the hell you are talking about, that was said as above, and not misconstrue any bit of what you say, even though you say in the most weird of ways 8)

So tell us, as you once asked, what is the logic behind your repetition?

The bit about you understanding that is funny, I'm still laughing. Perhaps you're not sure that it was strong enough to stand by itself? Or perhaps demonstrating my point, when trying to disagree with it, was completely unintentional again? :D

Whats the logic behind the repetition?

And ah can only wonder why it is you associate me with the im a robot, or why you point out my repetitions. But ah will explain the logical behind my repetition of ironically.

Years ago there was a skit on mad tv with a family called the Literals. They used the word literally in almost every sentence. Example: "He literally kicked me, literally. Ah literally thought ah was going to die." Ahve taken this exaggerated stance on pointing out irony. If it exists, even the smallest form, ah point it out.

Ironically, ah also type it for the hell of it too 8)

I've visited Da SDC a couple of times. Seemed like a fun place. I didn't have much troubles understanding the lingo, 'cept a few things (still have no idea what's up with DONGAH!).

But I'm the kind of person who likes humour as the icing on the cake. When I see too much of the same kind of humour, I get numb to it. Besides a good comedian, when someone's always making jokes, at some point I stop finding it funny. That's how I feel about Da SDC.

Maybe I'm missing something. I'm sure if I were to get involved I would like it, but I waste enough time on the net already.

I haven't been there, but I doubt if I need to go.  I don't know if my opinion is very useful, as I am one of the older and probably more boring members of this forum.  That said, I have little use for the "junk" posts that sometimes prevail amongst the younger crowd.  I prefer this forum and spend more time on it when there are posts of either useful information, or generally interesting dialogue.  Don't get me wrong - I love the sense of humor aspect of many of the threads, but sometimes it just turnes into junk.

I often see people bad mouth this community for the language they use.

the language they use is a dialect of english known as 'pregnant cat'

the reason they use it is manifold, it is amusing on a base level, and on a deep level, it also is frequently added to and expanded and is always subject to evolution.

really, it is actually quite beautiful, and whilst to some it is a novelty, to others it is a badge of honour, to be a pregnant cat and to be proud is a wonderful sheet!

also, it is a filter, there are various people on this forum, namely - boliver allmon - who are implicitly 'anti-pregnant cat', these people are warned off by the language, they know they arent welcome, and they dont bother the community.
these individuals look upon the community from the outside with bewilderment, with ignorance, and often with harsh disdain.
however from the inside, these individuals are looked upon as entertainment, everything can be made to be found amusing in da SDC...

the subject of racial hatred frequently pops up there, and hilariously, it turns into a laughterfest.

the world we live in is so heavy, but the air we breathe is so light, members of da SDC are free, they are the air we breathe, they are the farts we sniff, and they are the apotheosis of erudition.

god bless da SDC  :)

i always thought it was just another gay community, cuz of all the man porn. And I mean, there are only males there, so there's gotta be something more than meets the eye.
