I'm annoyed
on: November 06, 2005, 08:37:51 PM
I've been working really hard and kind of dedicating my every second to a national piano competition early next year. I had my entire program worked out, and had systematically worked out how I was going to properly complete everything to perfection in time... I emailed the organiser asking him to please update the information on the net (just so I could make sure all my prescribed pieces were in order, finalise dates etc), and he replied saying the competition would have to be postponed to 2007 because of piano problems or something, but dont worry, they'll adjust the age limit by one year. Honestly. You would think I'd be relieved... (cos I'm entering into a hell of a lot of other things next year aswell, plus its my final year of high school), I dunno, maybe I should be, I'm just still in a bit of shock. This competition was taking up everything I had.

But I suppose its a good thing, because now I have that rep prepared that I can just take to another comp which I wouldn't have otherwise entered into anyway... And I can spend more time on the other things. Whatever.

Ignore me, I just needed to vent a little.  >:(

Anyone else been through this?

Good to get things off your chest. This happened to me once, so i know how you feel.

The important thing is that hard work is never wasted. As you said, you can take your rep to another competition and you have more time to polish it.

yeah...seems like musicians somehow don't care too much about dates and deadlines. i mean, at least your competition isn't moved earlier, that'd be much worser. you can learn your competition repertoire and leave it. do something else, and after that you can revise your old repertoire. its a good thing cos you'll feel much more comfortable playing those pieces. but there's another thing(and what often bothers me), risk to become bored with playing those pieces...that sucks. i often start piece with one idea, and after many months practising it, dropping and revising again, i end up with completely new idea. its something what keeps me still interested in particular piece. very fun to see how different you play, especially if you have opportunity to record yourself in both cases
just came to my mind, they've moved my concerto gig one month earlier although it isn't much problem since i still have plenty of time do perfect my mozart (anniversary year yay)

So I've learnt. But its ok, cos now I've learned the huge repertoire, properly, (I dont have to learn the prescribed piece anymore!!... welll... yet) so I can easily take it to other things. And I've improved one hell of a lot in preparation for this thing, so all is not exactly lost :) Atleast my head can rest for now. :P

What Concerto are you playing? I'm doing the C minor #24, K.491 two performances in early May.

danyalswan, your so cool. I wish I was like you. Because you know all of the little tricks and stuff. Do you want anything, snack, food, morsel? Kibble? Just hollor if you need anything, because I am just on the other side of the house. When your done with it, just remember to set on the counter, you know how he gets. Oliver will have to use the bathroom, so this way it just makes things easier. These really need to get eaten up so don't be afraid if you want anything, ok. Really, make yourself at home.

Best Wishes,

Lau

wonderful indeed. i played it when i was 8 and now i'm back to it again. short and sweet. its not typical mozart what i'm used to, some parts sound almost romantic
