Choosing a Mozart Concerto
on: November 13, 2005, 06:05:02 PM
Greetings. I have a slight problem. I want to learn a Mozart concerto over my December/January hoildays (just as a project for myself) and they are all so absolutely beautiful... I JUST CANT CHOOSE! I know I'll play them all eventually some time in my life, but I cant pick now.

Which are your favourites, the most beautiful for you?? My absolute struggle right now is between no's 9, 11, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 21, 23 and 27. But I just put them all in the poll just incase you have any better ideas.... any help would be appreciated, ASAP, cos I'm gonna start learning it once my school exams are over. (in a week and a half!) I dunno... 21 Maybe? They're all just so gorgeous!!!
I dont play an instrument, I play the piano.

why not try the pinnacle, K 595 and work backwards.  it seems he combined his youthful self again with the virtuosity of many years of playing.

Hi danyalswan,

I would have the same problem, as I adore them all!  My suggestion:

My very fav is no 17 (K453) in G, because it is stunningly beautiful.  The 2nd mvt is one of Mozart's very best,  and the 3rd movement is infectiously humorous, almost makes me laugh out loud.  This one is also a bit less difficult than some of them.

No 23 (K488) in A is gorgeous, too, and the 2nd movement, as someone said, "would draw tears from a stone."

No 20 and 21 are lovely, but overplayed.

But choose from your heart.  Try to get scores and read through them, see which one "speaks to you" the most.

good luck!
Teresa

I would say do 414.  It is beautiful, brilliant without being taxing, and it can be played quite niceliy a quatro (unlike 415, which I am working on these days).
Money does not make happiness, but it can buy you a piano.  :)

14, 20, 22.

Although I am currently preparing 24 for performance in the spring, it's what the conductor and I agreed on.

Thank you for all your advice!!

I dont really want to play the first few (as beautiful as they may be!) because I am planning to take one to an international comp in a little while.

I think I've somewhat narrowed it down to no's 17, 19, 20, 21 and 23... tum tee tum... I'll get there eventually. Its looking like its going to be 21 but I'm still not sure. WHY couldnt Mozart have only written 5 or so? It would've made life all that much easier. :P
