I am kicking myself
on: November 14, 2005, 06:52:41 PM
I had the opportunity to see Olga Kern perform Rach's 3rd last month and I didn't even know it. She performed with the Houston Symphony and I must of blanked or something and missed it completely.

She'll be back if she has the staying power. I don't think she will be in the vanguard of pianists of the 21st Century. I could be wrong, though... ::)

yeah, but it will probably be some time before she comes back. Houston doesn't attract tons of great performers.

Her Rach3 isn't very good, imo. There's a video of her playing this. Get it and save some money.  ;)

I also missed a performance of Rach 3 here in Memphis. My teacher and I both could have sworn it was in November and we were planning on going, but when I looked at the Performing Arts schedule the other day, I found out it took place on Oct. 22!! Yes, Rach 3 may be hackneyed, but it is a pretty amazing piece if you like Romanticism and drama.

What's everybody's favorite movement?
I think mine might have to be the 1st.

Her performance of the Rach3 was one of the best I have ever heard in my life. Actually, all of them. She played all 5 when she was here. Twice. Her brother was conducting and I think they were an excellent pair! They pulled the concerts off magnificantly! Her Rhapsody was absolutely outstanding, and no 4... and no 2... and yes... no 1 aswell.

Then she played a recital here. Her Chopin 2nd sonata was incomparable!! And then... she went to the other end of the country, and repeated the whole cycle! :o
I dont play an instrument, I play the piano.

I saw Kern a few weeks ago, solo recital, it was awesome.  She's kind of hot too.

Her entire program was Russian and by the end you got a little tired of her banging the piano as Russians like to do, but you missed out Boliver!!!!

We'll have a competition to see who can kick himself harder, because Ah missed a concert at my university with a friend of mine playing the Brahms 1st Concerto. Ah knew of the concert but ah didnt know you had to get the tickets way in advance and it got  sold out

Olga Kern came to my town a year ago and played Rach 3. She had a memory lapse about 3 minuets into the first movement and the whole concert almost fell apart. But she was pulled herself back together and played a extrodinarily in the last movement, But, overall, I was a little unimpressed... Truthfully, I think she is a little overated. Sorry to all those Olga fans out there.

you are still lucky for seeing her at all. I am hoping to see Ax perform Mozart's 9th in January. He has come the last couple of years and I always miss the performance. Hopefully my trend will change.

Ax came a couple of years ago and played Chopins 4 scherzos and Ravel Gaspard De La Nuit, but in my ignorance I missed it. I heard he was brilliant to.

Cool I heard him play that (Mozart 9) in New York in 1979! It was great then, now I'll bet it's unbelievable. It's show off Mozart, very unusual; And he loves that piece, you will see a great pianist in one of his favorite concerti, and a somewhat unusual one at that!  :D
