Lang Lang - Mexico City Nov 28.
on: November 17, 2005, 02:56:03 AM
He will be playing Tchaikovsky´s num 1.
I must confess that i only own one recroding by Lang (Rach 3) (dont like it so much) besides, a lot of people in this forum hate his playing.
Should i go?

The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

I saw when I was 10, when he first was getting his start, and a friend of mine netted him to perform at his college concert series.
If I had a chance to see him again, I would go. Regardless of whether you like him or not, go. Any opportunity you have to be exposed to such a high level of live music is an opportunity that should not be passed up. Jon Kimura Parker is plapying this concerto in Rochester, my town, also. I never miss concerts that feature pianists, whether I love their playing, hate it, or have never heard of them before in my life.
And, it's a chance to formulate your own opinion of Mr. Lang. Recordings will only get you so far -- they are edited and spliced to "perfection." But, a true pianist will play BETTER live than in a recording studio.

Go! He is the most important young pianist under the age of 30. Hear him live, it's different than videos and recordings. If you don't like him, you'll really know for sure. I missed a chance to hear him in 2003, it involved a long drive. If it's a matter of taking the subway or walking, go! I miss all the artists coming to the same halls that are all on the transit system.
You can always leave in the middle if you hate him! But I'll bet he's very good live
