Grade 4/5 pieces - suggestions?
on: November 21, 2005, 10:45:25 PM
I have a pupil who is about grade 4 - almost 5 and i want to give her some other pieces apart from her short exam pieces (ABRSM).

Anyone got any suggestions? I was thinking perhaps some Beethoven - Sonatinas - any suggestions? Or Beethoven op 49 sonatas? - Would they be too difficult? I'm thinking the G major would be ok?

Any suitable Mozart or Haydn sonatas - or perhaps smaller pieces?

Many thanks...

I'm not familliar with ABRSM grading, is it similar to RCME/RACE?  RACE is 1-10, plus ARCT after that.  Beethoven Op. 49 Sonatas are grade 8 in RACE.  Also in that level:

Mozart Sonata in C (K545)
Haydn Sonatas XVI: 4 in D, 27 in G (Finale), and 39 in G (1st movt)
Clementi Sonatina in G Op. 35 No. 5

RACE grade 5 would be things like:

Clementi Sonatina op. 36 no. 2 in G
Diabelli Sonatinas op. 168 no. 1 (2nd movt), no. 2 (1st mvt), and no. 3 (3rd mvt)
Mozart Minuet in F, K. 5
Mozart Viennese Sonatina no. 1 in C, K 439b (menuetto and trio)

Hope it helps!
