The Blind Pianist: Selections from Mario
on: November 24, 2005, 06:47:52 AM
There is an 18 year old pianist, who recorded a home-video of him playing all the Mario songs. He goest by the annonymous title, "The Blind Pianist." The pianist in this video, to me, is extroardinarily talented. His inner voicing, shaping, and touch, add to the great spirit he puts in to the music he makes. I find it impressive he wrote the sheet music himself, of which you can find both "The Famous Video", sheet music, and an interview below.

But is it not a paradox? A talented musician playing... mario?--the classic nintendo game for the average teenager

How much does the piece selection  have an impact on the performance?

In his popular piece selection, he has appealed to his audience. Just try googling "The Blindfolded Pianist" or "Mario Sheet Music," in a short amount of time, the Blind Pianist has had over 40 million downloads of his video. His own website for his fans is www.videogamepianist.com demonstrates his appeal to the public.

In my oppinion, this work is similar to the Opera, Carmen. It represents popular culture in an innovative way, appealing to a much different sort of audience.

i think he is technically gifted, some great speed.

he needs to hone his musicality though, and his work isnt very subtle and complex.

he also isnt helped by terrible sound in his videos.
