What can I do to get the kids more enthused?

in band class or piano lessons?  i would think that the band class would want to know how to enthuse you.  people should get medals for honor and bravery - taking on classes like that in elementary/ middle school (is my memory serving me right?).

with piano - it's almost the same way.  i've only seen interested teachers when the student practices.  you do have to have a lot of patience with the younger set - but in college - no one cares.  if you don't practice - the teacher isn't going to try very hard to be interesting.

try yelling.  or, when they start to give you a list of excuses - line them up and march them around the room (chanting something you like).  tell them (like the mafia) that if they don't each bring you an apple or candy that you'll give them all F's.  watch kindergarten cop to get some more ideas (like the whistle - and firedrills).  stay on top of the situation.

on the very last day of school - be really nice.  that will surprise them.

yes.  competitions where they get ugly and people start breaking out fist fighting and slapping.  (just kidding of course)

i miss someone.  i don't know if it's you.  are you who i think you might be.  i miss my piano teacher.  i think he was sort of mean/nice.  i want to be mean/nice back.  when my leg heals (was told it won't break in the same place twice) - i want to give him a swift kick and then a kiss on the cheek.  anyway...i appreciated his honesty.  i am used to showing people my compositions and them saying 'oh, that's really great you're composing - and stuff like that.'  well, he tells me exactly what i need to improve the composition right away.  like, 'now with that melody - can someone actually sing it?'  or, with my grand mozart cadenza paper - catching the spelling of ibid (and actually knowing what the latin term meant anyway).  for all his strangeness - i greatly miss him.

(Checks.)  No, I don't think I'm you're teacher pianissimo if that's what you were asking.

"i want to give him a swift kick and then a kiss on the cheek"  (This is about her piano teacher... Her husband then...  ::) What's happening to him then?)
