Recording from a Yamaha CLP 130?????
on: November 27, 2005, 04:20:58 PM
Hi there,

This might seem like a patently obvious question but I lost my clavinova manual a while ago so please humour me...

I need to prepare an audition CD.

How do I connect my clavinova to my laptop??

Do I need special connections?  Special software?

Sound quality doesn't need to be amazing, I just need to get something on CD.

Thanks,
Kaveh

My best attempt at answering:

https://www.yamaha-europe.com/yamaha_europe/uk/10_musical_instruments/50_clavinova/10_clp_series/10_clp_series/20_100_series/clp_130/index.html - The Piano the Manual should belong to, incase SOME how it's different to yours :)
**You will need to copy and paste this link from the post I have made, and not copy the shortcut. It appears the Forum can't handle long hyperlinks :/**

https://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/emi/english/cla/CLP130E.pdf - Your Manual

Yet to have heard of getting software with your piano for recording, but something like Noteworthy Composer (free and great!) can record the keys you are pressing.
I'm not sure how it works myself, would love to know! Cause you don't press the keys EXACTLY for 1 beat, so there must be friggin 128th notes and double dots everywhere to make it exact to the length your playing, lol

Anyway, besides the software, you then need a Midi cable, Music Shops certainly do them like Sound Control, and Maplins the Electrical Store too (I should know, I work there :P)

I believe it's just one Midi Lead you require, I could glance at the manual to find out, but I'll leave you to figure out! :D

I'm a lazy begger ;)

If you want to capture the sound you'll need a cable to go from the output on the clp130 [depending what it has, some only have headphone sockets, some have more] into the soundcard's line in.

The cable is probably called "a computer guitar cable" or similar, the only difference from a standard instrument patch lead is that most computer sound cards have smaller [1/8"] jacks.

For an audition CD that's probably what you want.

Although you can capture the midi data too, that's more for sequencing / editing etc of what you play rather than for recording the sound of the digital piano.

For software, windows sound recorder would do it, but there are things like audacity that let you do a bit more. Windows XP probably burns .wavs to audio CD these days [probably part of windows media player or something]
