"Dem Andenken Petofis" Tremolos?
on: November 29, 2005, 12:02:02 PM
Could some please explain the tremolos at the end of this piece for me please. I take it you are surpose to trem between the two, for the duration of the notes, at the measure of the beams?
Any tips of pulling this off, technique wise?
I was watching that video in the audition room, but I cant see his left hand at work.
Thanks again!

You know what's funny is when I told my teacher I was having problems with tremolos he was surprised. After a little while I'm beginning to share his point of view. As with any technical problem on the piano, you have to ask yourself, why is this
particular
technique difficult? Generally it boils down to the usual suspects which are either:
1) Joints in your playing apparatus are aligned in such a way that your muscles are at mechanical disadvantage
2) You are moving too far above the keys, wasting energy in unnecessary motion
3) You are using muscles that do not need to be used, causing tension instead of motion
The first problem really needs you go back to the basics of piano playing and hand positions. You'll probably need a teacher to tell you what to do. As for 2 and 3, these can be solved with slow practice, playing from the key, and never
ever
cutting corners to gain speed.

Thanks for the advice Bearz. As it happens, I dont find the left hand octave tremolo TOO much trouble. So hopefully I can get on with this. Just feel weird treming with two notes!
