Hyperion Records- will you undertake the challenge???
on: November 29, 2005, 11:53:05 PM
Pianoforum members,

Starting from where I left off before.....are we brave enough to undertake this challenge

The Hyperion case is an absolute tragedy and Dr Sawkins should be ashamed of himself, aside from the legal aspects of the case, for initiating such an arrangement with his lawyers which would clearly send Hyperion under.  What other few companies in Britain other than Hyperion have the resources and desire to record music such as that which Dr Sawkins is interested in.

His work became far more public by virtue of Hyperion's recording.

Maybe the pianoforum should undertake the Hyperion challenge.  Many people come on to this forum praising the virtues of Hamelin, Hough, Demidenko, Hewitt etc.  We also complain when we quite find quality recordings of works. So.....instead of trying to bootleg everything maybe we could donate some $$ to Hyperion...and maybe even support the stars of the future.

Follow this link to donate:

There are nearly 10 000 members of the PF (not all active I know) but if we all donate 3 pounds that is at least a start..

Cheers

Well I should be getting paid before soon, and have been planning on ordering some CD's off the net for a while (record stores are so limited). So this makes my decision on where to get them from easier, I could afford to leave a little tip... I like Angel Hewitt's Bach, and I see they have nearly all of Haydn's symphonies ;D.

I strongly agree.
Hyperion is practically the only label that records relatively unknown music. It has a far better collection of Medtner's works (for one example) that any other label and its Romantic Piano Concerto series is a godsend.

Yea! Thats a good point.  I'd rather have new recording of course.  But does that help them out as much? I dont really have a clue...  I think ill help them out by buying the complete medtner piano sonatas: 125$ can. +shipping and tax
wow!

a gold point....you can donate a couple of extra $$ when you buy their CDs from them online.

in fact, if you by the CDs from their online store they might (i dont know this for sure) they might make a few extra $$$ by removing the middle man?

cheers

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
