Help!
on: November 30, 2005, 07:21:05 PM
Those of you who can help me with this, please do it!
I am studying Rach's prelude Op.32 No.1 in C major, and I don't know what to do with that 'pedal' C in the left hand at measures 22 and 23.
Do I have to sustain it with the 4th finger? or just let it ring with the pedal?
Thanks!

I don't play this piece, but it looks to me that you can hold the C with the 4th finger with no problem. That's what I would do. I tried it on the piano and it works.

Cheers

I tried, but it's not too easy in the context. Remember that's an Allegro vivace, anyway I will try again. Thanks!

The other way to try it would be to use the sostenuto pedal, perhaps.

I think you can do it if you work ahrd enough.  You have to hold the C; the other option is to just use the third finger.  I would defintiely practice this passage alone and listen closely.  As soon as you can hear it you'll be able to play it.
