What do you really mean?

what do you really mean when you say:

1. "I think he is a better pianist than ____(say, John)." (what is "better pianist"?)

2. "I can't compare both of them, they're two different pianists, but both are great!"

3. when asked with the question: What can you say about his playing? Answer: "I think he did a good job."

just curious... ;D

I wouldn't normally say anything like that.

I have heard the great pianists on recordings, but I do not think much about them.

I am mainly concerned about my own playing.

Anyone in the Suzuki music programs is familiar with one of their mantras:  "Never compare."
