Bob meets Mayla
on: December 20, 2005, 01:44:34 AM
I recently traveled through Russia and on my way through I stopped and met m1469.

I thought someone here would be interested to know that.  I know there was a thread about people from pf meeting.

Thanks m1469!

What does m1469 look like?

Um.... she's red hair.   And kind of a big nose and big ears too.  I'm sure she won't mind me saying that.  She's a good sport about it.  Kind of intense, wild eyes.

That doesn't make much sense does it?

(Psst!.... I think m1469 was fibbing about the surfing thing.  Don't tell her I said that though.)

Yeah there I was just minding my own business while eating a delicious bowl of chilled, beet soup, when I hear a knock on the door.  And to my surprise, there's Bob :o

He played for me and I was very mean to him  ;D

Well, if m1469's really in Russia she keeps some mighty odd hours doesn't she ! Surfing in Russia in December ? Pull the other one, it has bells on it. Even a slow old bear like me gets up too early for that.

Actually I am having my arm twisted to attend ragtime festivals in the US. If the exchange rate gets better I might just do it. Then some of you will get the fright of your life when I turn up at your front door in the night.

She is wanting to make a Grand Staff where felt notes can be placed onto (by students).  But I am sure it has other uses too.  ;)

Oh my god! I have music to that song that is about 36 years old! I always wanted to know how that song goes, as I have tried learning it to no avail.... However, I'm only 11, so I might be able to play it in a year or 2. Maybe Bob could could give us a recording in the audition room.......

mmmmm... tabasco newpapers  ;D

ps-  my first experience with tabasco sauce was when I was really young and did not know what it was.  I had a make believe kitchen and a neighbour gave me a number of different items to go into it.  Included in that assortment was an empty and clean-looking bottle of tabasco.  I couldn't get the lid open, so I used my teeth (kids, don't try this at home for anything ;)).  Soon my lips and mouth were burning hot... and I didn't understand.  I was a little scared and then I read the bottle.  I wasn't sure if the burning would ever go away, but it did  :)

Oh, and if you have a digital piano, it's pretty simple to record. All you need to do is plug some kind of cord into the piano and attach the other end into your computer, and hope you have the right sound card. I don't actually know how to do it, but if you have a digital piano I can give more detailed instructions via my older brother in the audition room. (he's good with computers) If you have an acoustic piano, it going to be a pain in the a**. There are some instructions in the audition room.

        Good luck

felt boards, tabasco sauce, newspapers, FOBB...this is an interesting thread.  ok, i'll put in my two cents.  i was thinking that when ted arrived i'd have a travel game for him (out of felt board) - that way he wouldn't be disappointed if he had to sit in the back seat of the van with my kids if my husband was driving.  (just kidding)  if he actually came - i'd take the felt board and let him sit in the front seat saying 'do you see that stop sign' - or 'i think that's a stop sign'  'do you plan on stopping?'

look at it this way...you probably don't have any credit card bills yet either, or diapers, or mortgage payments.  as i see it, you have lots of opportunity to make some good decisions.  your life is really built upon what you do between 17 and 23-24.  my advice (if you want it) is to just have a good time (within reason), get more education, and don't tie yourself down to one person until you fully know who YOU are and what YOU want.  i think at younger ages one is swayed to accomodate someone else too much, to their own detriment.  be free to be yourself and enjoy it.  then you have something to offer someone when the time is right.

maybe 40 is too long to wait, but my husband had a fully stocked kitchen.  that sold me right there.  i mean with a cuisinart on the counter, i thought 'this man can cook for himself sometimes.'  he did cook when we dated, and of all the things that endeared me, it was his parsley hamburgers.  chopped parsley, soy sauce, steak sauce, lemon juice, and hamburger  grilled.  he made up the recipie.

sorry bob andm1469- back to whatm1469thought of bob.  what did bob look like?

Well, I don't know if Bob would really like me to describe how he looks... As he mentioned once before (in another thread, in another lifetime), he doesn't need that many women (and men  ;) ) after him again.  Perhaps I will just describe some of his mannerisms.  He is pretty buoyant, and has a lot of motion in general.  He shifts up and down as he goes through life, as though he were sitting in water  ;)

mayla, that description is exactly the kind of joking you never do with a piano teacher.  of course, bob - being the good humored teacher he is may recover from your description fairly easily.  but, with teachers who are sensitive - you must carefully avoid revealing the secrets about them (*they have an evil twin, they never cut their toenails and still wear those soft open toed sandals, etc).

Just to be clear, I was not saying Bob was overweight, but rather I was playing on his name as he did mine.

Anyway, pianistimo, you are not truly and suddenly advising me on my ability to be a student, are you ?  I am sure Bob will be just fine, as was I after him saying I have big teeth, nose, and ears.  Afterall, I believe this entire thread to have somewhat of a comical nature.

no, i am not advising you on how to be a student - nor how to be a teacher or what to expect as a teacher.  flossing teeth in front of students might be cause for alarm, but most things that teachers do are just accepted becasue, well, they're the teacher.

Just because the letters are rounded I bet.

(Bob is not overweight.) (Not that there's anything wrong with that) (but he's not)  (except for the health issues, that could be "wrong.")

(Bob did not really understand Mayal motion statement.  So no offense :) Ignorance is bliss!) :)

You're not supposed to floss in front of the students?

Hmm... let's see.  m1469 owns a grand piano of course.  Many people might not be aware that she has a harpsichord collection though.  Completely authentic restored harpsichords.  Amazing.  The early music sounds much different one them.

yes.  i neither floss nor use mouthwash, just to be on the safe side.  just like perfume - you don't want to overwhelm someone with breath that smells too good.  it's just like overusing deoderant.

are you making fun of my parenthesis use?  ((((((((((((((( yes.  i use rounded letters.  but when i write numbers, i learned that it impresses math teachers if you make them square.  also, it makes music fingering look better.  so i have square numbers and rounded letters.

harpsichord collection?  wow.  a collection?  and not just one harpsichord.  and completely restored.  i thought pennsylvania was the 'arts capital' of the usa (after nyc and chicago and boston), but just the other day on main street there was an antique piano out on a porch in the rain.  at least the lid was down.

I don't really feel like explaining it  :-[

Bob showed me his crystal, piano, figurine collection.  Actually that's why he came over, to try to get me to be a part of his pyramid scheme.  He sells 'em, wanted me to sell 'em... yadda yadda.  He doesn't actually remember that though (nobody remind him) because I hypnotized him as soon as I opened the door to greet him ;D.

Yes, but these are hand crafted fine sterling crystal and they really do play.

I sell crystal piano figurines on the side.... when I'm out touring with my band.  It was our Back in the U.S.S.R. tour except it's not that anymore.  We're not quick to follow through on our plans.

pyramid schemes don't work.  i've tried it with amway.  i had to buy all my product from myself (thankfully i only bought soap and water filter).  you'll see.  you'll have to deal with people coming and looking and then leaving all glassy eyed.  people only buy when the pyramid is falling down.  somehow, it helps the pyramid rebuild itself.  i can't exactly explain this phenomenon - but as i see it - short of hypnosis - (whichm1469used to help her simply grab the crystals out of his hands and shut the door) there is no magic cure-all for financial woes.  the days of telling peoople they will get rich in a few years if they simply send one $10.oo bill to five friends - and a message telling them to do the same - and somehow it will all result in a million dollars is past.

They aren't those cheap knock off crystal pianos that are trading on the Russian black market.  m1469 knows what I'm talking about.  These have actual tiny little crystal strings and actually produce sound.  They have a deep rich bass sound.  I have a few diamond ones too, but the bench is sold separately.  Pretty soon, the new ruby pianos will be out.  Everyone will want one.
