Should I try learning it?
Is it difficult?
Will it help with my immensely inconsistent technique?

Better late than never - I just joined here. I played Prok sonata 5 last year. It is extremely rewarding, very fun, and not very difficult, at least not compared to other Prokofiev sonatas.

It could be very difficult for certain pianists though.  It's very unpianistic.  If Schumann kills you then this might be tough for you.
