Nils was concerned about people being able to get the pages up fast enough with pictures under people's names.  He would probably say the same about signatures.

basically it's dial-up sympathy, although there are options to not view signatures or avatars, so that is really no problem whatsoever.

It is most-likely laziness that has prevented us from having avatars and pics in our signatures.

Laziness?

Now when server space, bandwidth etc. is not much of an issue anymore and the forum software has user settings for hiding avatars or signature images this is not the most crucial reason.

The reason is mainly that we prefer a clean appearence in the forum, free from disturbing images.

we?

are you presuming this, or was there a poll somewhere?

i think you should ask what the people want, instead of presuming what they want.

They're cluttery and ugly anyway

"We" refers to those who provide this website.

So what you really mean is "me"?

Come on, now. Dont be shy ;D

Better be careful or he'll ban you ^^

Well, couldn't, theoretically, you and the other owners of this site whose existance we aren't even aware of just put "Don't view images in signatures."

???

Cause like, that solves your problem.

I think images in the signatures will just make the forum look cheap and nerdy, like many other forums.  Nils is absolutely right in saying

I couldn't agree more.

What I don't really get is people complaining about a service that is offered for free, or that you have decided to already pay for.  Even if it were only Nils' decision, so what ?  He is offering the service, why shouldn't he be able to decide what he wants to offer ?  Take it or leave it.

This forum is filled with information that is extremely pertinent and useful to all things piano, starting/having a career in performing, teaching... and so on.  It is a wealthy place.  While I do understand a desire to have a personalized feel to one's space, isn't the information you get here what really matters ?  Is it really a matter of which pictures one can "hang" in their signature ?  Besides that, some people abuse the privilege of being able to post any sort of visual on the forum, as it is.

tompilk, I don't think there is anything wrong with a suggestion, as a matter of fact, I personally agree with making them.  But, it's silly when people can't accept the answer and then resort to ridicul just because they don't get their way.  That wasn't you.  Obviously this stuff is up to the PianoStreet team.

hey I just thought of something... if you want a picture, you can upload it into your profile.  This way, people will see it only if they want to see it.  That is, they will see it when they view your profile.

Best of both worlds right?
