Composition Competitions
on: January 08, 2006, 06:43:02 AM
From what I can tell all of the performance competitions have some kind of age limit - 30 being most common.  My teacher says that composition competitions don't always have those same limits, although an initial search on Google dredged up a whole list of competions that all seemed to limit out at some point. - 35 or shortly thereafter.  Does anyone know of competitions that have no age limit?

I would like to know how many of these compositions that were successful, entered the main stream repertoire. Just a thought :)

Why are there age limits at all?

Because for some weird reason people are obsessed with YOUNG talent.  Look at the fuss people make over a 9 year old that can play a concerto.  To me it's almost like a freak show.  They'll go see that, but will whine about an adult that plays it more musically.  I don't get it myself.
