the argerich video of this piece is awesome, made me love this piece

havent heard of it being played that often, its virtually a piano concerto - just under 20 minutes, who else plays this piece well?

Rudolph Serkin (paired with Brahms PC 1).

Is the Argerich on DVD?

Never heard Argerich, but I've got an Arrau recording. But you probably wouldn't like it since you don't particularly care for him.

speed? fury?

i like some things he does, he just sounds annoying most of the time though.

bolet is often a slower pianist, and i love him, its not just because arrau is slow...he just sounds funked up.

ehhh, there is fury and speed, if not in the category of what Barere or Horowitz would produce, then at least good considering that it's Arrau. There is lots of respectable moisture. Actually, I think he captures the feel of the piece quite nicely. It sounds like an early Arrau recording, he sounds very different from the Arrau we're used to hearing. Btw, I reckon this is a piece that would suit Cziffra's style really well.

Argerich is an amazing sight to behold while playing this piece. Richter also plays it.

The excerpt of Richter playing it is much better than the same part when Argerich plays it. Either Richter brings out the piano more or it's a better quality recording, I don't know, but I can hear the end of the section that Richter can be seen playing much better than Argerichs. That's my favourite part of the piece.

Is it just me, or are the octaves before said section displaced between the hands very slightly?

I Played dis with de orchestra, it's a great piece and should be played more often.
I actually don't like the Argerich vid, she seriously needs to freakin lighten up! Malcolm Frager is a good rec.  Those 'speed and fury' people might prefer Byron Janis.
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.
