My teacher recommended that I start learning a Brahms intermezzo.

The question is, which one should I choose?  I find that the 118/2 to be played a lot and I would like something different (but still challenging)?  Which ones are also beautiful sounding?

Op.117 no.3 is great, so is Op.119 no.2. But I would reccomend Op. 118 no. 6, I think that this is the best of the Intermezzos and also challenging to play.

118/2 is one of the most beautiful pieces I have heard, especially if the pianist restrains the emotion, Brahms was a classicist remember.

117/1 is also very beautiful. 117/2 is my personal favorite.

Gould's recordings of these pieces are fantastic.

Yes I have Goulds recording to. They are quite interesting and a nice change.

Go for the 118-6!

I love plugging pieces that I've learned. But really, it's a wonderful, beautiful, dramatic piece of music. In general, I don't like Brahms piano music (yes, I know this might say more about myself than it does the composer), but I love this piece. I'm glad some others are with me here.

Op. 118 No. 5: Touching theme, middle part contains a brief and interesting series of variations. The piece sounds to me as a farewell.
Op. 119 No. 1: Serene piece, rich textures, noble theme.
