??? re: Kawai RX3 c
on: January 18, 2006, 03:02:09 AM
Can anyone please give me some information regarding the difference between the RX3 and RX3c.  I am able to purchase the RX3c new for what I beliveve is a good deal.  Does anyone know if there is to be a significant price difference between the two.  I have gotten quotes for RX3 for 20 to 28 K here in North Carolina US.  This new RX3c is substanially less.
I like the RX3 and didn't know if there is any significant difference between the models.  The piano will be for home use for me and my children.

Thanks in advance for all of your assistance.

JA

Never heard of RX3c.

Do you have a chance to actually play this "RX3c"?
Who is the seller, and how much did the seller quoted you for a new "RX3c"?
What makes you think that number is a "good deal"?
What has the seller told you about this "RX3c" vis a vis the "RX3"?

Just curious. :)

BTW, I wouldn't expect a new black RX-3 to exceed $20k, not by much anyway.

Never heard of RX3c.

It mentions it here, but doesn't show any difference....

Perhaps it's the finish?

My research so far has led me to find the differences are all cosmetic.  Only 2 positions for the piano lid, the keyboard cover is not chamfered and the shelfboard for the music is of a dimpler design.  It apparently is made of for music schools , conservatories etc.  More common in Europe etc.  The internal workings are the same, no diff bw it and the RX3 per a post by a Kawai spokesman.  Didn't play the c version , but love the RX3.  As per the price I'm just comparing to what I have been quoted and it is all over 20K for a new RX3.  Thanks and look forward to more replies

Yes ! There is RX-3c, conservatory ! I had played RX-2c, RX-3c RX-5, SK-2, SK-3 while I choose my new piano last year. Then I just got my SK-3 month ago. It takes 4 months to delivery.
The C serious are designed for conservatory. The finish is not that good as normal RX. Of cause much difference to SK. But the action system is same. I suppose the frame and string should be the same.

The RX-3c here ( Taiwan) only cost 12K, SK-3 cost 22K. After 2 half day side by side try! I decide to get SK-3. It worht every cent I paid !

Now the new RX series should equip with Millennium III action system. It's lighter, faster reponse than old ABS system. I would recommend you check it before you ordered. There may still have some old stock with ABS action.

I guess it'd make sense if Kawai skim on the furniture to appeal to the music school market. Thanks, to jaiello, leahcim, and frederic.lu for sharing your research.

It would be interesting for me to find out if this RX-3c is available in the US, since this thread is the first place I see it mentioned. :)

I have been following this topic with interest as I am considering upgrading my 5'10 grand piano and the Kawai pianos impress me. Recently I tried a new RX2 with the new "Millenium" action. It was an amazingly sensitive, responsive action and ornaments could be played with perfect ease and clarity. The piano sound itself was very "alive", warm and resonant. I was captivated by this piano and if this instrument is an indication of current Kawai piano production, then its competitors must be concerned.
