Sorabji: The Second Comming of Christ
on: January 25, 2006, 12:27:26 AM
A lot of people love Sorabji for his contribution to music, but very few think of his philosophical contributions. I think he should be best remembered as a great philosopher of music (along the lines of John Cage) in addition to a great composer and a great human being, foremost. His contributions to society cannot only be measured in how many perfect pages of music he wrote but also in the edification of his writing.

So if I quote Finnegan's Wake that means I'm smarter than you, right?

Nietzsche is for beginners.  At least quote Spinoza or Kierkegaard or Schopenhauer.

I’ve never heard of Finnegan’s Wake; perhaps you meant Finnegans Wake?

Between us you're the one that hasn't read it ^^  Unless you read it in the past two months.  Is this indeed the case?  Could I subsequently quiz you on the book if you say yes?

Actually, *** it.  You're not worth my time.  You're end up banned soon anyways and I don't particularly want to join you in your fate ^^  Plz do not expect any more responses from me to anything you write.  I know you'll respond to this because you simply HAVE to have the last word.  And if you wanna start a pissing contest I do always have that one certain convo... =P  But no ^^

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
