Why Sorabji???
on: January 26, 2006, 04:38:08 AM
Why, all of a sudden, is there a Sorabji thread trend? It's really beginning to work my nerves...
It's like a feud between the Sorabji lovers vs. the Sorabji haters...I'm really not getting it

There is no Sorabji "trend." It's just ryguillian starting a bunch of random threads recently. The rest of us Sorabjians don't really care unless people start talking trash and being disrepectful.

What do we do with those of us who both love and hate Sorabji?

P.S. Thanks for starting another Sorabji topic.

I know it's rude to answer a question with another question but, in the spirit of the thread originator's question, I am nevertheless incluend to ask why "we" (whoever "we" may be) have to "do" anything at all about such people (even assuming any actually to exist).

Thanks for starting another Sorabji topic.
Well, I suppose the thread originator rather walked straight into that one...

Actually my guess is that Ryguillian is trying to start a massive amount of Sorabji threads to try to wear out Alistair Hinton since he has a habit of making rather long posts XD

Just assume it has something to do with Ryan hating Hinton.

There are several issues here, so I'll deal with them one at a time.

I have no idea as to the validity or otherwise of your guess, but can assure you that it (Ryan's Sorabji threads, that is - not your guess) won't wear me out at all.

As to the length of my posts, they, like Sorabji's pieces, vary considerably in length (although I do not write posts that take several hours to read). If post length interests or bothers you, may I once again urge you (as I recently urged someone else) to check out the "Is there a God" thread (which, as it happens, was also originated by Ryan), wherein there are quite a few posts considerably lengthier than the longest of mine, yet no one seems to have raised any comment about that.

Frankly, I would respectfully counsel you not to waste your time in assuming, or encouraging anyone else to assume, what Ryan's reason for commencing such threads may be. If people don't like reading or responding to particular threads (whether or not they are started by Ryan), they can always ignore them; likewise, if they do feel disposed to reading and/or responding to them, then presumably they will do so. Only thus will the question of whether any useful purpose is served by starting each of them be duly answered.

I realise now that I omitted from my previous response to this the fact that Ryan's evident desire to commence new Sorabji threads is by no means exclusive to him; sorry - I should have written that before.

I don't really have a problem with your lengthy posts.

Besides, like I've said before, don't take anything I say seriously ^^

Sorry - I always try to take seriously anything that you or anyone else says (or writes) if it appears to be of serious intent...

It now appears that some "Sorabji" threads are being commenced by someone who is not - or at least is not readily identifiable as - Ryan and, as I mentioned earlier, the best response to these is (hey, why repeat myself - let's keep it SHORT...).
