A little question
on: February 06, 2006, 01:32:25 PM
I'm about to learn a new piece, but I don't know in wich key it's written. I never played a piece in such a key. Can someone tell me wich notes are changed to Flat/Sharp? I would be very thankful!

the next to the last flat tells you the key.  this is a particulary hard key to play in - so if you have to write in a flat next to the C and F in your music - you might remember to play them that way!  after a while it becomes easy to remember to flat everything.  your mind starts helping you think of the notes as 1/2 step below (and not just black notes, but also white notes - as in the case of C and F - since the white notes are the closest 1/2 step down).

Thanks for your reply. So if I'm right, I have to 1/2 every note I play? So, in this piece, B - E - A - D and G become black keys, C becomes a B and F an E?

Sounds like a difficult task to play in this key, but I'm gonna try it.

This key signature might be A flat minor or C flat major or it might not be in a particular key. This key signature flats every note by a half step. So C becomes Cflat which is a B. Hope this helps. :)

Hi debussy symbolism, thanks for your reply.  :)

It's a piece written by nobuo uematsu I think. I uploaded the mp3 of the piece for you, so you can hear it:

Not if it's in a minor key.

The key is either Cb or ab (C flat major or A flat minor).
