Best recording of Debussy Sunken Cathedral
on: February 08, 2006, 09:49:56 PM
Can anyone recommend a recording(s) of Debussy's piano music?  In particular, I'm looking for a disk that contains "Sunken Cathedral."  Though I like most of his piano music, so most any recommendation would be welcome.

My favorites are Michelangeli and Ivan Moravec; Robert Casadesus and Youri Egorov are also very good.

Greetings.

Yes I have also listened to Casadesus's recording. He playes soft and expressive, never with forcing of chords or notes.

Gieseking.

Also Francois-Joel Thiollier on Naxos.  Some don't like it.  I think some of his preludes are good, although there are deviations from the score.  It's not bad for the price.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

What about Pascal Roge?  He has a double disc set including Suite Bergamasque and the complete Preludes, among others.

Thank you very much for the suggestions.  The samples of these performers that I heard on Amazon are all promising, and different performers for different reasons.  Well multiple versions is a good thing, right?

Thanks.

On a slightly related note, does anyone know how to convert an m4a file to mp3 or get around the m4a problem, because I was going to upload my recording of Sunken Cathedral for notturno but it won't allow me to upload m4as.
