old movies
on: February 14, 2006, 07:38:16 PM
i love old movies but i can't remember the titles very well.  does anyone remember the title of the one starring clark gable and that millionare's daughter (can't remember heroine's name) that ran away - and he finds her and tries to rescue her but she's kind of stubborn?

i found it!  claudette colbert was the heiress.  'it happened on night' is the title.  anway - that's one of my favorites.  and, of course, 'african queen.'

does anyone else find old movies way better than new ones?  well, some new ones anyway.

i'll have to watch that one.  i think i've seen parts of it.  and, today i saw 'two women and a sailor.'  it's not what you think.  anyway,  there's a duo piano part in it that's hilarious from a pianistic point of view.  (a lot of banging motions).

ok.  anymore?  thalbergmad, i was sure you might like the oldies, too.  maybe you're more modern than i think?  wittering on?  what does wittering mean?  have to look that up.

I think i have seen the modern version of 2 women and a sailor. Nicci Sterling, Sylvia saint and T Bone.

There are tons of great old movies. As long as you remember the pace is slower and the acting is from another generation and you do not compare them to movies of today.

This list is only what comes to mind and not in any special order.

Some like it Hot. Comedy.Marilyn Monroe Tony Curtis. (My favorite all time movie)

Signing in the Rain. Musical. Gene Kelley at his best.

Guess who is coming to Dinner. Comedy. Sidney Poitier I believe won an Oscar, but the movie
belongs to Spencer Tracy.

Bring up Baby. Comedy. Hepburn and Cary Grant. Really really good.

All about Eve. Drama The great Betty Davis

Gentlemen prefer Blondes. Comedy Monrow again with Jane Russell.

Mr Smith goes to Washington. Drama James Stewart. His best work

African Queen. Adventure. Hepburn in a classic

Any Clark Cable movie. But I am a big fan.

Well. That's a start anyway....

yes!  those are movies that i could see over and over again (some i do).  like that one with cary grant and grace kelly - (again, forget the title) where he's a jewelry thief but he meets bigger cons.  isn't that the one that his sweater arm gets wrapped around a tree, and he's beaten by an old lady holding the other arm.

the odd couple is pretty funny too.  and, doris day's performances.

I like old movies - more acting, more story, less eye candy.

Seen North by Northwest recently.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

When I see some of the old Traci Lords films, I think acting was better in the old days.

What shall you say when some producer will eventually decide to do computer generated nude scenes cause it saves the budget?

Ah yes the Hitchcock era, Rear Window, North by Northwest and Psycho are just 3 that will keep you awake at night. Despite the absence of obvious blood and gore they're much scarier than most of the horror flicks released these days.

haha you reckon? she was definitely a prodigious performer (or so I'm told :P).

Stevie, with ladies like Ava Gardner, Hedy Lamarr, Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell etc, the women were hotter back then. But actually, I prefer new movies because I've been brought up with special effects and I find it hard to watch movies without it, even though there are some old films that I like.
