Online Search for Classical Performances

Well, I hope everyone who is interested reads this.

Problem: I am shocked at the lack of being able to find what I want on the internet. I want to find any piano performances (With or without symphony) in certain towns between certain dates. Sure there are local sites (That generally don't list everything) and some general sites, but since most of these performances sell tickets directly from the concert hall/wherever it was being played at, TicketMaster and etc don't sell the tickets.

Solution: Create a new web site specifically for this purpose. Make it really easy for people to add performances to different cities as well as track individual artists playing across the nation. It would be extremely easy in terms of how someone adds themselves as a touring artist, or as a single performance in a certain town.

What does this solve? It solves people like me who want to find some good pianist playing in a certain city that I know I want to visit. For example, I know that I want to see someone play when I visit new york in January (hypothetical). I personally find it very hard to find any good list of what's available between January 7th and January 12th.

Does anyone else think this is a good enough idea to pursue? Keep in mind that development isn't a big deal, since this is what I do on the side from my regular software development.

Well I can't speak for New York but here in London there are brochures from the main musical centres available giving lists of every event on,

Right.. and I assume there are those things locally everywhere -- but it's not online so people who plan on taking a vacation and touring some city can't make it line up with some concert they'd like to see -- at least not in the online world.

A lot of trips nowadays are booked by going to Priceline, Expedia, etc, to find Hotels, Airlines, rental cars, etc, but there isn't really a resource to find good classical performances by anyone at that time online.

For example, I know I want to go on vacation in January or February (whenever I can get plane tickets cheapest). The only other thing I know is that I would like to travel overseas, but really my main goal is to see a good piano concert, with or without symphony, hopefully including a work or two of Rachmaninoff However, as I'm starting to look around, I can't plan this trip. Why? I have no idea where I want to go other than I want to see some rachmaninoff performed.

Now, I imagine being able to get onto this service that I'm thinking about and typing "Rachmaninoff" and selecting some dates. Then *walah* I have a listing of every rachmaninoff performance worldwide (well, *participating* performance, since if we don't know about it we can't list it), and I can start looking at cities and see what sounds interesting to me.

I just wanted to know if anyone here thinks there's demand, and if anyone else is interested in helping getting it launched after I make the site and stuff (if I decide there's demand for it).

Seeing as there's only 14 views -- any way to get more people's opinions? I do respect your opinion, but I'd like to know that more than just you and I think it's an ok idea

I'll probably start working on a design/backend for it after my current contracting job (probably another two weeks or so).
