Rachmaninov Etudes Tableaux Op. 33 Alternate Numberings
on: February 19, 2006, 05:37:30 PM
I know there are two sets of numberings, and I was wondering what the one is that I DON'T know.  The one I know has Grave- in C Sharp Minor as No. 8

btw that is the coolest Rachmaninov Etude ever, just in case anyone wanted to know.

So what's thew other set of numbering?

Hi,

According to my Boosey & Hawkes edition:

The orginal edition of Op. 33 published in 1914

No. 1 in F minor
No. 2 in C major
No. 3 in C minor
No. 4 in A minor
No. 5 in D minor
No. 6 in Eb minor
No. 7 in Eb major
No. 8 in G minor
No. 9 in C# minor

No. 4 was withdrawn by Rachmaninoff from Op. 33 and subsequently published as No. 6 in Op. 39.  I've seen other editions, Dover I think, which number them 1 thru 8 with the orginal No. 4 in A minor missing.

I also dig that C# minor one in Op. 33.  Its my second favorite...I still like Op. 39 No. 5 in Eb minor the best.
