Difference between the 2 campanelle versions
on: February 23, 2006, 02:27:14 PM
What is the difference between the 2 campanella versions, exept that they are in different key signatures. i dont have the gold member ship, but you can see they start out differently. answers greatly appreciated.

I am not a gold member either, but i assume you are comparing the one that everyone plays to the earlier 1838 version.

It was soooooo many years ago that i attempted this, that i find it difficult to remember, but it does use a theme from other movements of Pag's Violin Concerto.

There are lots of pitfulls for the pianist, including the wide jumps and repeated notes (left hand as well).

Rarely played compared to the latter version and more difficult IMO.

sadly its a bit sheet

there is also the busoni version, and hamelin's composition based on the theme, whcih is IMO actually the best of the lot.

there is also the grand fantasy on this theme 'la clochette', it has some great moments.

thanks thalbergmad

Interesting... I can't help prefering the more common version, since its what I'm used to.  There seems to be a wider variety of themes in this version though, whereas I've found the later version more of variations on a theme.  Perhaps after a few more listenings I'll 'get' it better

It does tend to grow on you, or at least it did with me. The Busoni version is well worth a listen, but the "La Clochette" is a bit of a monster.

Clochette, is that the one you uploaded?
Would you be able to post the sheet music for that, if you have it?
Interested in discussing:

-Scriabin Sonata 2
