Richard Meyrick...
on: February 28, 2006, 08:55:27 AM
Has anyone heard or seen this pianist play? He is simply wonderful. I went to see him at Chipping Camden with my grandparents (they live just down the road from the church where it was played) and seeing Horowitz's transcription of Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 and Rukovsky March was awesome! His version of Mephisto Waltz, which I have on CD, is great too. Better than Horowitz's in many respects, even though it's a different edition. I really don't like Horowitz's.

Anyway, does anyone know of any videos of him?

Cheers,
Henrah

I used to take lessons with Richard and he is indeed an amazing pianist.

Stupendous technique and flair, but thoughtful and poetic when required.

Horowitz and cziffra rolled into one.

He has released a video, but he would have my nuts for earrings if i posted it.

You used to take lessons with him!??? That must have been fun as! I really want to talk to him, and converse about music and such. Never got the chance to after I saw him in concert. But, hopefully he will visit my school as part of the pianoMan thing. Our school is, supposedly, the best in Oxfordshire, so hopefully he will!

he came to our school and we had masterclasses in the afternoon, and then he played a concert in the afternoon. He gave me advice on one of my grade 8 pieces which was very helpful, and gaves us lots of tips about memorising and how we should play in exams etc. His concert was amazing and he had some cds on sale and i realised that we already had one at home that i enjoyed listening to! he was a bit scary at first when talking to us but he obviously knew a lot about the instrument and playing etc. It'l be great if he comes to your school henrah!

The way he playd Bach was simply the best. The chopin etude was just explosive, nothing more.
