Shape of the little finger
on: February 28, 2006, 01:05:31 PM
While working on a rapidly repeated four note figure I notice my little finger does not want to work parallel to the others. It tries to curl sharply and meet the keys at a different angle.
This has confused me, I'm not sure whether to let it do what seems to work or try to make it align more with the others.
The pattern that made this obvious is a repeated four sixteenth note accompaniment of B-F#-G-F#. My teacher wants it at q=120, which has been a struggle but is coming. I've been alternating hands working on it, and both hands have trouble with the little finger curling under.

Well, if it plays in time I won't be bothered.
After all this finger is shorter than the rest, so it's not reallistic to expect it behaves the same i think.
