Mental House-Cleaning
on: March 01, 2006, 03:16:23 AM
Well, I have been thinking lately.  I have too many thoughts and memories just cluttering up my thinking.  I don't think I need all of those, plus, I think that if I let some of them go, I would have room for other stuff that is more important to me (like piano music) and perhaps more pertinent to my life.

But, it's like I am scared to let some of them go.  I wonder if that's what happens in "old age", people just let things go.  It's not that they cannot remember, it's just that somewhere along the way, they have decided that they have better things to think about.

Plus, sometimes those things seem like "me" and it's like I don't want to let them go, even though thinking about them serves little discernable purpose in my life.  Even if they did serve some purpose, I believe I have been thinking about them long enough for the lessons to have been gleaned...

So, perhaps it's time for some mental house-cleaning.  Focus on the present, and something about the future.  To look out the front window of the car, and not in those bloody rear view mirrors.

Do you think it's okay to do ?  And, do you think it's that easy ?  Sometimes it surely seems like it is.

I believe that a persons thoughts strongly influence a persons direction in life, and that it's powerful to be able to control what you think about. I say daydreaming is a great way to spend ones time.

...Ever try meditation?

So, you don't think we have to remember everything that ever happened to us, or everything that we ever thought about, or everything that we ever did ?

Yes, I have done some meditation, and loads of it in a way that is not formal.

Well sure, you'll always remember the significant things in your life... Why, that's what defines who we are. But it's probably not such a good thing to always have stale thoughts in your consciousness. Not thinking about old memories doesn't mean they will go away, they'll just fall back into the storehouse of the subconscious. Use your conscious thoughts to make new memories.

...I've never come across any kind of 'formal' meditation, I doubt it exists. To me, meditation is just that 'stillness' of mind and body. From there it's easier to focus your thoughts more productively, or even chill out and simply enjoy the moment.

Sometimes it seems that the "significant" things in our lives are the things that we let define who we are, and in order to remind ourselves of who we are we keep them around in some form.  But anyway, it seems like we have control over that too, and that we can actually just decide to let anything go.  And what is signficance anyway ?

I just feel ready to be somebody more I guess...  or more clearly me... or live my life more clearly... or something like that, I just would like to start from here.  Maybe I just want to travel a new course.
