Full Score Orchestrations
on: March 01, 2006, 11:26:44 PM

Does anyone know if some of the classic keyboard works have been orchestrated for the full orchestra or chamber group?

Obviously some have, like 'Clair de Lune' for example.

But Id love to hear full orch versions of the WTK, Beethoven Sonatas, Chopin Ballades etc.

Anyone know of any recordings or transcriptions?

Cheers!

The FI has - someone skated to it at the olympics.
Someone on the forum was orchestrating Alkan's symphony (update? ;))
Respighi orchestrated a few of Rachmaninov's etude-tableaux (Rach personally chose Resp to do it for him)
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

I was. I havent finished the first movement yet.

Pictures at an Exhibition is the perfect example. Ravel orchestration is the most famous one, buy Stravinsky and Debussy did some orchestrations of this work
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.
