Spain or Portugal?
on: March 02, 2006, 08:49:21 AM
Hey everyone-

I am booking a tour this summer and cannot decide which to visit first- it's either/or.

If you are from Spain or Portugal- or have visited both- please write which one vacation would be more memorable in terms of eating, music, culture, and history.

Thanks!! :)

Dear,

I think I prefer Portugal.  Spanish are rude and cruel, they are the best 'swearers' (users of expressions with f*ck and sh**) in the world.  Lots of tourists  in Spain (though number of tourists increases in Portugal too).  Portugal is well-tempered, Spain equal.  Portugese have best coffee, best bars, lots of black people from the ex-colonies, Mozambique, Brazil, Angola... Portugese have often travelled, they're solidary.  They're in general a little smaller than Spanish folks.  Portugese have a more delicate, dark sense of humour.  If you like macho's and bulls go to Spain.  If you go to Portugal try Porto, Lisbon and Sintra.  If you go to Spain maybe Barcelona is interesting.
Have a nice trip !

Spain, such friendly people, well they were with me.
Avoid Barcelona's beach at mid night, hehehehehehehe, unless you are looking for some nocturnal activity. ;)

Sintra in Portugal is lovely, such a wonderful place. If you like nature and hill walks, you will absolutely love this place. It is so beautiful. It has a castle on top of one hill which looks just like the Disney castle. Portugal also has the cleanest subway/metro/underground, and with TV's and music too!

SPAIN, especially since you're traveling in the summer.  Why?

EL ENCIERRO
(the running of the bulls)

That's right.  The greatest party on the planet.  Head to Pamplona (northern Spain in the foothills of the Pyrenees) in early July for the Festival of San Fermin.

You party all day.
Eat great tapas, bacalao, paella, leche frita, flan...
Drink great rioja, albarino, patxaran...
Eat great churros (dipped in a mug of hot melted chocolate)
Dance in the streets all night.
Run with the bulls in the morning (8am sharp!)
Catch some sleep.
Then do it all again.

I've been to San Fermin 3 times.  It's freakin INSANE.   ;D

While you're up in the North, swing through Bilbao and San Sebastian to experience the Basque people, foods, and culture.  Incredible.
