Pianists in fiction?
on: March 02, 2006, 02:03:10 PM
Do any of you know of any work of fiction, regardless of genre, where a major character is a pianist?  For example, perhaps a fictionalized narative based on the life of some great artist?

I very much enjoyed "The Harper Hall Trilogy", where many of the leading characters were musicians of various kinds, but there were no pianists there.  Just singers, guitarists, percussionists, flute players, string players, brass, and composers.  The main character was a singer/songwriter.

"Solo", by Jack Higgins

The pianist, an international spy/assasin, is named John Mikali, right? Read that years ago, an entertaining read...

'Maestro' I think it's called by Peter Goldsworthy.  Studied it in year 12 - about a boy learning of a WW2 survivor whose wife was a Jew.

Body and Soul by Frank Conroy. It's about a prodigious kid and his journey toward becoming a concert pianist and a professional composer.
