I like the piece very much, have done since I was a kid, and usually play it for my own pleasure about every week or two I suppose. Each to his own.
But the other posts do imply interesting questions about precisely why we, as individuals, choose to play the sounds we do. I think I must operate more simplistically to most people, in that whether or not I play something - piece, chord, rhythm, any subset of composition or improvisation, any sound - depends on my enjoyment of it and my perception of beauty in it. Just these two properties really. I cannot recall ever playing something because it was considered great. Neither would I play any sound, or work on any music which, to me at least, was not beautiful in the broadest possible sense of that word.
