irish tunes arranged for piano
on: March 19, 2006, 12:36:44 AM
i've been looking and looking and only found simplified versions of two pieces (the rose of tralee and danny boy).  does anyone have some more difficult versions of any irish tunes?

here's what i found:

www.sheetmusic.iconv.com/roseoftraleepiano.pdf
www.sheetmusic.iconv.com/dannyboy.pdf

also  www.freesheetmusic.net/oneills.html  has some tunes that one could add the bass to

www.ceolas.org/pub/tunes.pdf/SessionTunes.pdf  (same thing - need arrangements)

www.ceolas.org/pub/tunes.pdf/POB.pdf

and www.celticmusic.com/cgi-bin/tunes.pl

i have a fantastic version of oh shenandoah and danny boy for vocal/piano - but none for simply piano (melody fully incorporated).  i'm irish and after st. patricks day realized that i have to maintain my irish heritage by at least playing some of this music fully arranged for piano.

*does anyone have leroy anderson's orchestrated (irish medley?) arranged for piano??

i found a bunch of really good piano arrangements here:

https://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/r?ammem/mussm:@FIELD(SUBJ+@band(+Irish+Americans++Music+))

pick the song and then click 'view this item'  and next page to get the whole song

I think Grainger did quite a lot of transcribing of folk songs - I know there's about 3 versions of Danny boy for orchestra I think, Choir and solo piano.
There's some songs Beethoven arranged for piano trio - violin, soprano and piano (possibly cello as well - don't remember) - they might be Scottish folk songs though.
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

thanks!  i think i heard both of those on the radio on sunday. they're great!  i had no idea, until i heard it, that beethoven wrote irish music.

here's a site i found, too, with lots of traditional melodies (that would need arranging):
