Is the mouse bad for your wrist?
on: November 13, 2003, 04:18:21 AM
I've been getting some really tight cramping in my right wrists after playing for 15 minutes or so. I can play through it but it comes back a bit later. I haven't lost any flexibility in my movement its just tighter and sore. I thought maybe how I had my mouse on the computer before might have caused it.

I found that with the mouse on the pull out table in the desk your weight is all on your wrist it seems. I now have a small table to the right of me which is quite elevated and is long enough to rest my whole arm on so the weight is now all spread around my forearm. My wrist is feeling better and its more comfortable at the computer also. Just wanted to share and hear what you think.

yeh i have a rollout out table too, as well as the wrist symptoms (especially after playing chopins Op. 25 #12- ouch!).  I dunno about the mouse, but i guess it depends on which brand you have.  today I think theyre pretty well ergonomically designed- perhaps it's just your tecnique, eh?  But sure, if youre resting on your wrist for prolonged periods of time, what do you expect?
A modern house without a flush toilet... uncanny.

Yeah, its not so much the mouse I was refering too but the rollout tables seem particularly bad on the wrist because there is only a small space to put your wrist on and all the weight of your arm goes here.  A table to one's side seems infinitely better.
