to anyone who didn't already know...
on: March 30, 2006, 07:51:04 PM

... i did and ignored it, and paid the price

1. plan your recital program keeping in mind ANY kind of situation - you have to be able to play this program under any circumstances!

2. a few days before the recital, record a general rehearsal (if possible, in the hall where you'll be playing) - you'll be shocked to hear things you didn't while you were playing, and it'll help you build an image of your recital.

3. someone once told me there are two kinds of pianists: the ones who see red before their eyes and the ones with ice running through their veines. obviously, a perfect balance is ideal - but most of us can't get it: therefore, if you must choose, go for 1st option on rehearsal and 2nd on stage.

i know all this sounds like common sense, and that most people know this - i wrote this for the others.

Yeah, I mean, come on man!  Don't leave us hanging like that.  What did happen?

that pretty much sums it up...

what happened? i ignored everything i teach my students:  planned a program i can manage under normal circumstances - but not with health problems; i didn't have time to record myself (actually, i didn't have time for a general rehearsal...) - i would have lowered the tempos; and worst, i fought with the piano throughout the recital - and the piano (obviously) won... in one word: bad bad recital... i'm still sour...

oh, yes, and sorry if my previous post sounds so bitter, i really intended it only as an honest advice to anyone who might need it.

Anda, I must confess that I have nothing but admiration for you:

You prepared a concert badly, you failed somewhat, and you learned a lesson, which is good, even if you obviously already knew what you were taught this time... ::)

But even greater, you're willing to share your hard gained wisdoms with the rest of us, hopefully with good benefit to some of us.

I'm confident you will win next time,

BennoM

i often wonder what things are more difficult than piano? i mean really?! but anda is a wise person, coz he learnt and detected the cause of the problems.

preparation/smart planning is really the key to success ( and lots of prayers :) ). i totally agree with anda, recording one's rehearsal before concert is VERY important. and that easily goes with this: never expect to deliver a brilliant concert if you never play a rehearsal beforehand! ideally, one has to play thru one's program at least once a day everyday for two weeks prior to a big event. otherwise, you would be black and blue, and would probably cry your heart out for the mistakes you have un/knowingly made.
dignity, love and joy.
