Releasing a Student
on: November 18, 2003, 03:49:23 AM
I have the misfortune of terminating a student's lesson.  :P Not too pleasant of a task when one's inexperienced in dealing with such a matter. How do you teachers approach it? Is a letter unbusiness-like and a confrontation on the phone or in person better? Any helpful advice and suggestions are most welcome. Thank you much!

I *just* read about this very thing on a website devoted to the business of private studios.  The author of this website is pretty strict about their policies.  It was some good reading.  The page specifically about letting a student go is here:

Thank you very much, Scarborough! the link you provided proved to be quite helpful. Currently, my student is on a sort of probation. Should she not follow through by the end, then I'll dismiss her....
