I wouldn't be surprised if that link isn't already somewhere on this thread  ;) she plays it so *** fast, and you can actually see her hands and fingers in the fierce parts.  This video is the reason why I learned this piece (well, this video and the Ashkenazy recording).  The jumping chords are crazy, and she hits them with such ease at such a crazy speed!

I've not yet come to a real appreciation of Louis Andriessen's music, though I've heard quite a bit of it. I still listen to it with fascination, though I'm not sure if it's a fascination for the music itself or for its fanatics. I openly explore it, and there is always some interesting sound or silence to take away, but...oh, I wonder if I have to be Dutch or at least have a better sense of the "Dutch sense." Doesn't that sound superficial? And I don't even know what I mean.  :-\

Ah, well...his father wrote some truly beautiful music which on its surface is immediately accessible to me, but looking deeper, it filled with buried treasures hidden from immediate accessibility...treasures that keep the craving for more listens (come to think of it, Louis's music, though I don't get all of it, does indeed produce a similar craving.)

I'm not even close to being Dutch, and I love his music. It just seemed like a random curiosity at first, but the more I listened to his music, the more I started to love it. Now, I'm completely crazy about his music. The piece I uploaded isn't one of his better works, but is still a good example of his mature style. His best works, like De Materie and his other large ensemble works, are just as moving as a Mahler symphony or a Wagner opera to me, though (and that's no joke). It just makes me wish he had better piano works. He is a very good pianist, so one can only wonder why he doesn't.

Actually, I was referring directly to De Materie with my strange "Dutch sense" comment. It is certainly an interesting, original world, but there are some gaps in my understanding of what he's getting at that hinder my appreciation of the piece. (It does hold my interest, though).

There are posts on her starting at age 3.
My favorite so far is the Mozart Piano Concerto26 Coronation.  I think she is 10 or 11 on it.

Four-handed piano.. :)
That reminds me:

While staying at the now nonexistent Garden of Allah, Harpo (a harpist) got a new neighbor: Sergei Rachmaninoff. Rachmaninoff's practice was rather loud and long, getting in the way of Harpo's practice. Harpo responded by repeatedly playing the first four bars of Rachmaninoff's Prelude Op.3 No.2 (not Rachmaninoff's favorite) as loudly as possible for hours, until he heard what sounded like a sledgehammer used to attack the keyboard, then silence.

Oh my god, I've seen this one come up before on this thread.  The piano should get a restraining order on that beast.  She just looks so awkward, flipping her hands around and all.  Haha I think I've favorited it on youtube just because I get a good laugh each time I see it.

She does have decent octaves though... I'll give her that.

I dson't find it to be a great piece anyway but I agree Mr. Pianowolfi's is 10x better.

Well this serious work may just be what one needs to start the day; but I would not want to be the page turner here.  I think as observed he misses a few notes here and there but who cares as long as the overall impact is there!  ENJOY !! ;D

Here is another piece by the composer pianist which really becomes so interesting starting 5 minutes. I think one must have an open mind to his unique approach and the posture he takes which is definitely non-traditional. ;D  ENJOY

It appears he's putting himself in that position in order depress the white keys producing an effect of resonance when playing the black keys (the dampers are raised on the white keys, but not the black keys.). That said...oh my, what a horrendously frustrating "piece." Horrible.

The first video (the Kiyama "unleash?") is wildly entertaining, though. This guy's nuts! ;D
