Pretty amzing.  Who's the pianist?  Not that teenager who played Schumann.   ;D

Pianist: Konstantin Scherbakov. I recently took a liking to that peice and hope to learn in one day if I ever acquire the technical capability to learn it. Check out his other pieces. Amazing.

i think that's the one i threw up on the rep board when someone was asking for piece suggestion, i believe you very shewdly/wisely told me the level was inappropriate for the pianist that was posting, it is nonetheless a cool piece, glad you're discovering it, let us know when you tackle that beast!

also don't know if this one has been thrown on here (this is  abig big thread) but i have always found this piece fascinating both pianisticaly as it looks fiendishly difficult but also compositionally i the music pretty much doesn't end, apparently 'tonally' it could pretty much go on forever, i guess thats part of why it's the 'devils staircase'  if you're in hell climbing this thing you'll never get out....

ps let me know if you want the score and mp3 of sherbakov playing them i'm pretty sure ive got both lying around here (in my other hard drive) somehwere...

Well, I have to say it:  that was really cool!   ;D  loved everything about it.  The music, the pianist, the regie - Ligeti was truly one of the last great composers of the 20th century.

Greg Anderson's amazing! I threw in that piece in this thread a few days ago by another pianist. I like how Ligeti uses chromaticism? to imitate stairs and sounds endless.

There is another video that goes along with that where he plays Bach.  The two pieces greatly contrast each other.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

I came across this video just then while looking at Dohnanyi. The style of this piece reminds me of Balakirev's Islamey.

Also there is this channel where it contains the most neglected music of the Romantic period. Sort of similar to Hexameron's channel.

just discovered this young lady's playing. at only 15 years old (she's 14 in this video) she shows remarkable musicality and digital finesse if she keeps this up i think we'll be hearing and seeing more of her as she'd prolly get picked up by one of the labels.

this is a very mature piece for someone so young i think she  nails it.

Hmmm, I agree that it should be buried and covered up again. I thought it was going to be a great set of variations after listening to the theme. I didn't listen to the whole video before I posted this here. I didn't realise it was atonal music until now when I heard it. The theme was passable and fun IMO. I won't bury/remove  this however.

Maybe.  But just from a pianistic technical point of view, that Hamelin is one hell of a pianist.  Is there anything he CAN'T do?!

Yup. I also like the theme, but I don't quite care for the variations.

Hey guys, check this:

That's pretty good. I watched your other videos and they were not bad. Sorry to say but the Mephisto Waltz was a bit ordinary despite the outstanding audio and visual quality.

I want to share an interpretation of Alkan's famous etudes-variations, played by Bernard Ringeissen. I don't know much about Ringgeissen but he definitely recorded the complete Alkan etudes op35 and op39. IMO this interpretation is a bit better than Hamelin's version, despite differences in interpretations.

BTW, whoever watches this video, I think you must have seen earlier.

Chopin's fugue. It is one of his most neglected works. I first discovered this piece while reading a thread called 'Chopin's most neglected pieces.' When I heard it it didn't sound as sophisticated or hard as some of Bach's fugues because it only has 2 voices and less variety of note values. The trills might be what makes this piece hard as well as the speed.

nice new release/ beethoven upload, high production value on this, fun recording to watch and experience this familiar favorite

Steinway Inauguration Concert at Kulturhuset Spira, Jönköping Sweden
fyi hd available if you click on the yt and switch it to 720p, better sound quality, also really nice split screen footage of pianist ange and one of his hands simultaneously when he comes in at about 4 minutes in, it's so fun to revisisit this young less serious beethoven

Believe me, he can play it a hell of a lot better than you or I can, or most people in general. I happen to like his Rubinstein and Reger, by the way. His Scharwenka is, well, odd and awkward.

Schlozer's etude in A flat op 1 no 2, played by Stephen Hough. The composer is not well known and his two etudes might have meen written by Moskowski. The two etudes are incredibly difficult to play. I discovered this piece while reading about Rachmaninoff. It was said that before every practice session he would play this etude.
