Define Repertoire
on: April 04, 2006, 04:34:20 PM
Is it pieces youve performed?
Learned and studied completely, mastered?
Pieces you almost finished?
Ive heard all sort of things and Im wondering what you think.

Repertoire is any music you play on a consistant basis for yourself or others. You can place your pieces into any of the the categories you've named.

What it boils down to for me is a list of everything I feel confident about standing behind as a performer or some form of educator. Pieces I would feel confident being hired, with very little notice (or otherwise asked or appointed), to demonstrate knowledge in; either through performance, lecture, teaching, or all of the above.

It's pieces that you have studied thoroughly, and would be able to perform, but with preparation of course. If it's just your "last minute call" pieces that counts, pianists would have to limit them selves to a tiny tiny repertoire.
