stupid, hilarious letter I received

here's a letter I received today in my email, as is:

DR.KOFI ADAMS.

DIRECTOR FOREIGN OPERATIONS,

OF BARCALYS BANK ACCRA GHANA.



DEAR CEO/MD,



I AM THE DIRECTOR OF BILLS AND EXCHANGE AT THE FOREIGN REMITTANCE DEPARTMENT OF BARCALYS BANK ACCRA GHANA.



I AM WRITING FOLLOWING THE IMPRESSIVE INFORMATION ABOUT YOU THROUGH ONE OF MY FRIENDS WHO RUNS A CONSULTANCY FIRM UNDER GHANA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY.HE ASSURED ME OF YOUR CAPABILITY AND RELIABILITY TO CHAMPION THIS BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY.



IN MY DEPARTMENT WE DISCOVERED AN ABANDONED SUM OF US$16.5M (SIXTEEN MILLION FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND UNITED STATES DOLLARS ONLY) IN AN ACCOUNT THAT BELONGS TO ONE OF OUR FOREIGN CUSTOMERS WHO DIED ALONG WITH HIS ENTIRE FAMILY IN APRIL 1998 IN A PLANE CRASH.



SINCE WE GOT INFORMATION ABOUT HIS DEATH, WE HAVE BEEN EXPECTING HIS NEXT OF KIN TO COME OVER AND CLAIM HIS MONEY BECAUSE WE CANNOT RELEASE IT UNLESS SOMEBODY APPLIES FOR IT AS NEXT OF KIN OR RELATION TO THE DECEASED AS INDICATED IN OUR BANKING GUIDELINES. UNFORTUNATELY WE LEARNT THAT ALL HIS SUPPOSED NEXT OF KIN OR RELATIONS DIED ALONG WITH HIM AT THE PLANE CRASH LEAVING NOBODY BEHIND FOR THE CLAIM.



IT IS THEREFORE UPON THIS DISCOVERY THAT I AND ONE OF THE OFFICIALS

IN THE DEPARTMENT NOW DECIDED TO MAKE BUSINESS WITH YOU AND RELEASED THE MONEY TO YOU AS THE NEXT OF KIN OR RELATIONS OF THE DECEASED FOR SAFETY AND SUBSEQUENT DISBURSEMENT SINCE NOBODY IS COMING FOR IT AND WE DON’T WANT THIS MONEY TO GO DISBURSEMENT ACCOUNT AS UNCLAIMED BILL.



THE BANKING LAW AND GUIDELINES HERE STIPULATED THAT IF SUCH MONEY REMAINED UNCLAIMED AFTER FOUR YEARS THE MONEY WILL BE TRANSFERRED INTO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ACCOUNT AS UNCLAIMED FUND. THE REQUEST OF A FOREIGNER AS NEXT OF KIN IN THIS BUSINESS IS OCCASIONED BY THE FACT THAT THE CUSTOMERSWAS A FOREIGNER AND A GHANIAN CANNOT STAND AS NEXT OF KIN TO A FOREIGNER.



WE AGREE THAT 30% OF THIS MONEY WILL BE FOR YOU AS FOREIGN PARTNER AND 10% FOR EXPENSES INCURRED DURING THE COURSE OF REMITTANCE. THEREAFTER TO THE PERCENTAGES INDICATED.



THEREFORE TO ENABLE THE IMMEDIATE TRANSFER OF THE FUND TO YOU AS ARRANGED. YOU MUST APPLY FIRST TO THE BANK AS A RELATION OR NEXT OF KIN OF THE DECEASED INDICATING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER AND LOCATION WHERE IN THE MONEY WILL BE REMITTED . UPON RECEIPT OF YOUR REPLY I WILL SEND TO YOU THE TEXT OF THE APPLICATION.



AS SOON AS YOU RECEIVE THIS LETTER, YOU SHOULD CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY AND INDICATE YOUR DIRECT AND CONFIDENTIAL TELEPHONE/FAX NUMBERS FOR THE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION REQUIRED.

haha can you believe this guy?  I feel like writing back and telling him to go *** himself or something

These scam letters have been around for quite awhile.

Sadly, some people still fall for these schemes, believe it or not, hence they are still making the rounds.

You should ask him which friend referred you and what plane crashed!  And keep pestering him with various details like that, or you could just ignore him like everyone else.  Or you could say, "nice try, scammer!"

Like many millions of other people who simply happen to have email addresses, I receive one of this type of communication around three or four times per week on average; what these have in common with the lottery win scam emails, those purportedly from "the bank" asking to update one's "security details", those purportedly from PayPal advising "unauthorised activity" on one's account and a whole host of like scam communications is the aim to obtain the recipient's bank and/or credit card details. My advice? - don't buy the "meds" either...

it's a common practise carried out by nigerians around the world, they call it a 419 scam. in all likelyhood they are the culprits. i get those emails all the time.

Actually, the "Dr Kofi Adams" bit is at least unusual in that it makes the letter look even more like a scam than is usually the case...

ive received 2 or 3 of these emails. i didnt know about these particular scams,nor have people tried to scam me before (im very lucky) but i sensed it straight away and sent rude emails back of about A4 page length (ok they prob didnt read all of it) making them feel like the lowest form of life on earth.

A waste of your time, if I may say so. These things are emailed in their millions and the only responses that are ever considered are those including actual bank or credit card details. What the senders may "feel" like doesn't even come into it.
