Applying for a scholarship... these pieces ok?
on: April 20, 2006, 03:28:39 AM
Ok, I am hoping to major in both music and business at Old Dominion University here in Virginia, and I am currently planning on testing out of 4 semesters of theory due to my AP music theory classes.
I have been playing piano for 13 years, am 18, and have a GPA of around 3.3 (3.8-3.9 junior and senior year and 2.9 freshman/sophmore
) and scored a... don't laugh... ~1320 on my SAT's. (I didnt study...)
Anyways, I was wondering if I played:
Rachmaninoff "Prelude in C# minor"
Liszt "Un sospiro"
Billy Joel "Waltz #1"
if those would be considered good pieces for not only acceptance into the program, but for a scholarship as well. Thank you.

for fun, play billy joel, but substitute some bach/scarlatti/or mozart for his spot, imo - for the scholarship and entrance exam. they're looking for difficulty of music, how well you interpret it (musically), and accuracy of rhythms and dynamics (things like that).
