AMAZING pianist.
on: April 24, 2006, 02:35:34 AM
You've all probobly seen this video before, but just making sure....

This is Valentina Lisitsa, whom I respect highly as a musician.  This is a video of her playing the Rachmaninoff Tableaux Etude no. 6.  Enjoy.

Honestly, she's a really good pianist but a wierd musician. Not a big fan of her interps, but her effortless "flying" smooth technique and movements always impress me.

Plus I can't decide if she's really attractive or really scary.  :-\

I feel the same way.

She looks like Gwyneth Paltrow in that video, for some reason.

I didn't like the interpretation - Rachmaninoff's rubato should be present, but never excessive.  I do like the thunder, however..

I don't know...

Rachmaninoff's music is hard enough to interpret in the first place, so I respect anyone who is brave enough to try one of his more difficult (even though they all sort of are...) peices.

GAH his etudes were such a pain to learn!!!!

Dear god, she plays it so fast!  I have the Ashkenazy recording and was used to that, (it was the only one I had heard)... then I watch this... and... wow...

That's probably because almost any Rachmaninoff recording by Ashkenazy is incredibly slow.

Sure, this isn't her best interpretation.

My favorite is of the fantasy-polonaise, op.61.

You are all lucky to have found the great one. She is a beast. I contemplated buying her Chopet DVD, but heard mass controversy about the dubbing. So now ah vil look into buying the swascshwsang majig DVD

i think she's incredibly good. those phsychotic looks on the rachmaninov could possibly be her way of getting the emotion of the piece, seeing as she looks better in the polonaise.
