boliver, as you get older, things happen naturally that put you in the late night tv setting around 7 pm. for instance, my four year old daughter kept insisting that we make cookies (since we did two days ago) and so dutifully i get out the eggs so she can do her big 'egg cracking' (why do kids like to crack eggs?) and we get the batter just right - and i reach in and cut my finger on the stupid blade of the cuisinart. it didn't bleed on the batter - i pulled it out fairly quickly.
seems that every night something happens to one or the other of us. if we had an inventor in the house - then certain things wouldn't keep repeating. like my husband losing his baseball caps - or, socks and towels disappearing.
what people seem to need, too, besides humor - is tradition. just make something up and say it's a family tradition. then try to keep it up for a period of time. my bro is good at this. they live in alaska and every year they send a humorous pic of the family. one year it was everyone outside in their swimsuits sitting on lawn chairs with mai tais and drinks (in the freezing cold and snow all around).
