Lang Lang in Chicago
on: May 03, 2006, 05:44:14 PM
Lang Lang just performed in Chicago in the last few days and the Chicago Tribune printed a long review.   I missed the concert but did read the review carefully.

The Tribune's take is that idiosyncratic "quirks" and eccentricities in Lang Lang's play  -- that have infuriated many critics in the past -- seem to have been admirably absent in the latest performance.

The Tribune suggests -- nay, hopes -- that Lang Lang's undeniable technical skills may find a complement in a more mature and intelligent musical perception.  I suppose this is what we all would like to see.  Is the "wunderkind" growing up?

Did anyone see the concert?   Is the Tribune reviewer on the right track?
