Handel's Messiah

I just got back from performing Handel's Messiah. It got me thinking alot. It is funny how the Messiah was risky music when it was composed. The church that the Messiah should not be performed for the world and the world thought it was too close to church music to be considered something to go listen too. They liked their oratorios that talked about stories, but not about salvation and Christ. Now days though, it is considered pretty common practice to perform it.

15 days ago I went to hear the Christmas portion of Messiah performed at a church by their Sanctuary choir and a local orchestra.  It was very good, the only problems: the harpsichord part was played on a digital piano, and the organ was electronic.  The sounds were all very realistic, but I just hate the fact that the organ and harpsichord were fake!

Well, since they sound so realistic they're better than nothing, but I REALLY WISH the keyboard instruments used had real strings and pipes,

I guess I was lucky. I had a real harpsichord being played there.

It would be even more interesting to have them played with all instruments as they were in Handel's time, don't you think?
